My favorite from the whole day:

A Study In Lighting

A friend of mine graciously agreed to model for me for a study of studio lighting that I wanted to conduct. I thought you might like to see the results! I used two lights for this study. The light to the camera's left stayed constant throughout the study.

For this portrait both lights were set to the same output, resulting in flat lighting.

Beginning with this portrait, I lowered the output of the light on the camera's right one stop for each exposure. You can see how the left side of my model's face is slightly darker.

For this portrait I turned off the light to the right of the camera.

This last exposure demonstrates the difference the direction of the light can make to the feel of a portrait. In the previous portrait, my light was pointed at a 45 degree angle to my model. For this one it is feathered across, or pointed perpendicular to her face. Notice the lighting on her face. More light reaches the left side of her face, creating softer shadows, while less light reaches the background, making it darker.

All Babies Are Beautiful

Does anyone even check this bog anymore?? I have got to be better about posting.

Anyway, as I said, all babies are beautiful, this one just happens to be exceptionally so. Looking at her mother it's easy to see why.

7 Month Old Cutie

Today I got to photograph baby E whom I first met as a tiny newborn. He has gotten so big, but is still just as sweet as he was then!

This little cutie was the most alert newborn I have ever worked with! She was so sweet. Barely made a peep though she was awake almost all of the session.

Family In Laguna Beach

I had so much fun photographing this family! I could tell they really enjoyed being together. They were referred to me by his sister, whose daughters I photographed earlier in the year. Some of my favorites so far:

Baby *B*

This little guy was born over four weeks early and still weighed in at almost 6 and a half pounds!! After a long week in the NICU he is home and doing well. Such a sweet little guy. Slept almost the whole time. ;)
